Scar Tissue Remediation

Scar tissue remediation is an approach for working with both internal and external scars, especially those involving the pelvis. We are as much an emotional body as we are physical one. And so it is with scars.
The physical treatment of scars brings much desired healing to these affected areas (visual improvement) by disconnecting adhesions that may have shut down circulation or is preventing effective lymphatic drainage away from otherwise healthy tissue. Muscle function, organs, glands and especially the pelvic floor can be affected, causing pain in places we might never guess were related to scars.
The emotional treatment of scars brings awareness of the stored trauma and emotions that are connected to the experience of the past. To let go of something we need to create firstly awareness around the existence of it. Setting the intention to see what is there; bodywork directs presence, focus and acceptance to an area of neglect so that the emotional wound can be healed.

What a session could look like
Scars from abdominal surgery can create imbalances in the pelvis and spine. They can lead to numbness, lack of feeling, or pain at the scar or surrounding areas. Childbirth can occasionally cause scars in the pelvic floor, which can lead to pain during menstruation or sexual intercourse.

Scar tissue is an obstacle to healing. It blocks our free movement of joy and pleasure in the body. Scar tissue shortens the original length of the tissue and weakens it. Scar tissue may impact other body parts and the organs, creating dysfunction and pain. Scar tissue remediation changes the configuration of the scar to resemble the original tissue. It brings more openness and flexibility to a scar area and brings stagnant tissue back to health.

Scar tissue can be formed through infection, injury, illness, inflammation, chronic poor posture, endometriosis, radiation therapy, tearing during childbirth and surgeries (such as C-sections, episiotomies, appendectomies, ectopic pregnancy removal, abortion, cervical tears and biopsies, hysterectomy, ovarian cyst removal, gall bladder removal, etc).

STREAM, scar tissue remediation, education and management. Created by Ellen Heed. Next certification program beginning October 31st, 2022! www.ScarTissueRemediation.com

In addition to being a certified Somatic Sex Educator and Sexological Bodyworker (since 2016), I am also certified in the original STREAM training taught by Ellen Heed and Kimberly Ann Johnson in 2018. I am also currently a returning student in Ellen Heed's new STREAM 2-year certification program.
STREAM, create by Ellen Heed, is scar tissue remediation, education, and management for people seeking autonomy, relief from pain, and health you can feel in your body.

STREAM practitioners meet you where you are; they tune in to your story and your state, holding space to discover, assess, and connect the dots in professional relationship. Through meaningful education, facilitated self-discovery, and mapping strategies, STREAM restores organ alignment, sexual function, and pelvic health, and works to resolve pain and blockage from scars – both physical and unseen.

What Problems Does STREAM Resolve?

Scar tissue remediation works to resolve pain related to:
  • birth, abdominal, pelvic and reproductive surgeries
  • bio-mechanical, postural, and physical imbalances
  • bio-chemical imbalances including bladder, gut and reproductive problems
  • gender reassignment surgeries, breast and genital surgery
  • These include, but are not limited to, bladder, cervical, uterine and rectal prolapses, Cesarean scars, interstitial cystitis, vulvodynia, vaginismus, episiotomies, birth tears, prolapse repairs, genital affirmation, and plastic surgery.

STREAM is an integrative system whereby client and practitioner work together to listen to and hear the whole story the body has to tell. Together, the story is heard at multiple levels:

  • Verbal/Cognitive Level: the story of what happened and the impact it has had on one's psyche at both conscious and unconscious levels.
  • Fascial Level: how it manifests as tension patterns that affect posture
  • Boney Level: how the free movement of the bones is affected
  • Bio-chemical Level: how hormonal and dietary imbalances create both emotional and physical tension and pain
  • Somatic/Emotional Level: how what happened is stored in the tissue as emotional/muscular tension, creating postural distortion

Scar tissue remediation work happens in a one-on-one setting and includes hands-on manipulation, trauma and scar mapping, client education about self-care protocols, support for lifestyle and nutritional changes, along with active relaxation tools. It takes all of these elements to remediate and manage scar tissue, minimize inflammation to discourage its proliferation, and re-educate the nervous system to change one's relationship to pain. Clients experience healing at the root level.

STREAM is a multi-dimensional modality that addresses scar tissue to potential overall health as well as sexual and reproductive autonomy and well-being. We work at the cutting edge of health, improving sexual lives, daily lives, and vitality for women and families. Scars have not been a factor in mainstream health conversations. However, tremendous number of people need these services.

What are the benefits of receiving STREAM work? Clients report lasting relief from painful symptoms that get addressed at every level. In partnership with their practitioner, they solve the puzzle of seemingly unrelated symptoms and receive a workable treatment plan that addresses the root cause of their symptoms.
